“IFS is a loving way of relating internally (to your parts) and externally (to the people in your life), so in that sense, IFS is a life practice, as well. It’s something you can do on a daily, moment-to-moment basis—at any time, by yourself or with others.”
Dr Richard Schwartz, Creator of Internal Family Systems Therapy

IFS therapy is based on a few key beliefs:

  • Everyone has a self. You can’t lose it. It can’t be damaged. It knows how to heal.
  • Mind is naturally multiple and that is a good thing. Life is complicated. We need all our parts to navigate it.  But, things go much better for us, if our parts harmonize and collaborate, rather than working against one another.
  • Our inside world mirrors our outside world.  Just like members of a family, inner parts are often forced from their valuable states into extreme roles within us.
  • When a person has been hurt, humiliated, frightened, or shamed in the past, he or she will have parts that carry the emotions, memories, and sensations from those experiences.
  • We can learn to differentiate between our true self and parts that serve a more limited role.  We can, over time, begin to connect with and trust our own self-energy, inner wisdom, care and presence.

FAQs

Individual clinician’s fee schedule varies depending on the type of treatment (individual adult, couples, child/teen, or family) and on session length (45 or 60 minutes). Out-of-network costs range from $189 to $325 per session, with most out-of-network insurances covering 50%-80%, depending on the plan.

Each therapist has a limited number of sliding scale slots, most often scheduled in the 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. time window, which are assigned at the therapist’s discretion. The intake session is slightly higher (+$50) due to the extended length and review of intake documents.

Fees are typically paid online by credit card overnight following the session.

After your first session we provide a clear, easy to read superbill including all the codes needed to submit directly to your insurance.

Like many private practices in NYC, The Collaborative is an out-of-network provider. Meaning we do not accept insurance directly. However, we actively support clients who have out-of-network insurance coverage to secure reimbursement by generating a superbill which you can submit for reimbursement.

We encourage you to contact your insurance company directly to assess the cost before beginning treatment. It is very helpful to ask your insurance company the following questions:

  • Do I have out of network coverage for mental health?
  • What is my out of network deductible?
  • What are the reimbursement rates for individual therapy CPT code 90834 or couples/family therapy 90847 in zipcode 10012.
